BMW M43TU

BMW M43TUThe BMW M43TU/M43B19 is a 1.9 liters (1,895 cc, 115.6 cu·in) straight-four, four-stroke cycle, natural aspirated gasoline engine from the BMW M43-family. The engine was manufactured from 1998 to 2002 at the Steyr engine plant.

The M43TU engine features a cast-iron cylinder block, a crankshaft with four counterweights and aluminum head with a chain-driven single overhead camshaft (SOHC) and two valves per cylinder (8 in total) with hydraulic tappets. Cylinder bore is 85.0 mm (3.35 in) and piston stroke is 83.5 mm (3.29 in). The compression ratio rating is 9.7:1.

This engine used a Multi Point Fuel Injection system (MPFI), the Bosch BMS 46 engine management system and a dual length intake manifold (BMW “DISA”). Redline is 6,200 rpm.

The BMW M43TU engine produced 105.0 PS (77.0 kW; 103.0 HP) at 5,300 rpm of maximum output power and 165.0 N·m (16.8 kg·m, 121.6 ft·lb) at 2,500 rpm of peak torque or 118.0 PS (87.0 kW; 117.0 HP) at 5,500 rpm of horsepower and 180.0 N·m (18.4 kg·m, 132.7 ft·lb) at 3,900 rpm of torque, depending on the engine version.

The breakdown of the engine code is as follows:

  • M43 – Engine Family
  • B – Gasoline
  • 19 – 1.9 Liter displacement
  • TU – Technical Update
