    • Basically any B&S 12-16 HP with electric start and gravity feed carb.

I did replace one with a Kohler 17 HP, though it was “bolt in” it did require hood modification (too high and too long), rewiring the charge circuit, and redoing the throttle body. For most people just sticking with a same type B&S is the best bet. Carroll Stream probably has the most reasonable prices.

  1. I this model engine Briggs 12.5 hp 289707 code 9311304E Type 011301 I am wondering if this engine has a voltage regulator and so far I have not found one. Thanks

    • Search on e-replacements for the tri-circuit. Here is the thing, if your flywheel is really stuck on, you can nuke the whole engine with hammering. I ended removing my flywheel eventually with a heat gun (be careful of the plastic ring gear), impact wrench, and $130 OTC bearing puller (used the H adapter). The engine failed shortly after the flywheel replacement. I really should have just gone with an external alternator instead of ruining a good running engine to replace the bad stator.
