
The Yamaha MX175 engine has an OHV (overhead valve) design; float type carburetor; centrifugal flyweight governor; mechanical splashing lubrication system; Transistor Controlled Ignition (T.C.I.) and recoil or electrical (option) starter. The starter knob position can be adjusted by each 45°. Microwave harden crankshaft and camshaft provide extremely long life. The high-tech exhaust valve (Stellite® coated and tufftride® finished) resists very high temperature.
The cylinder bore is 66.0 mm (2.60 in) and the piston stroke is 50.0 mm (1.97 in), compression ratio rating is 8.5:1. The engine produced 4.9 PS (3.6 kW) at 3,600 rpm of maximum horsepower and 4.1 PS (3.0 kW) at 3,600 rpm of continuous rated power. Maximum torque is 10.5 N·m (1.1 kg·m, 7.74 ft·lb) at 2,400 rpm.
