Nissan CG10DEThe Nissan CG10DE is a 1.0 l (998 cc, 60.90 cu in) natural aspirated inline-four gasoline engine from Nissan CG-family. The engine was developed and manufactured for use in the Nissan Micra and Nissan March K11-series from 1992 through 2003.

The CG10DE features an aluminum block and aluminum head with dual overhead camshafts (DOHC) and four valves per cylinder (16 valves in total). The Nissan CG10DE engine is equipped with multi-point fuel injection and direct ignition system (for engines from 2000 through 2002).

Compression ratio rating is 9.5:1 (1992-1999) or 9.8:1 (2000-2002). Cylinder bore and piston stroke are 71.0 mm (2.79 in) and 63.0 mm (2.48 in), respectively. Redline is at 7,300 rpm.

The Nissan CG10DE produced from 55 PS (40 kW, 54 HP) at 6,000 rpm to 60 PS (44 kW, 59 HP) at 6,000 rpm, and from 79 Nm (8.0 kg·m, 58 lb⋅ft) at 4,000 rpm to 80 Nm (8.2 kg·m, 59 lb⋅ft) at 4,000 rpm.

The breakdown of the engine code is as follows:

  • CG – Engine Family
  • 10 – 1.0 Liter Displacement
  • D – DOHC (Dual Overhead Camshafts)
  • E – Multi Point Fuel Injection

Cylinder head

The cylinder head is made of strong, light aluminum alloy which gives it good cooling efficiency. The CG10DE engine has a dual overhead camshaft with four valves per cylinder. The camshafts are driven by two-timing chains.

The intake valve diameter is 27.5 mm (1.08 in), the duration is 196°. The exhaust valve diameter is 22.5 mm (0.88 in), the duration is 196°. The CG10DE does not have hydraulic lifters, so special valve lifters are used to adjust the valve clearance.

Valve clearance adjustment data

Calculate the thickness of new adjusting valve lifter so valve clearance comes within specified values.

R = Thickness of removed valve lifter
N = Thickness of new valve lifter
M = Measured valve clearance

Intake:
N = R + [M – 0.30 mm (0.012 in)]
Exhaust:
N = R + [M – 0.35 mm (0.014 in)]

Valve lifters are available in 50 sizes from 2.00 mm (0.0787 in) to 2.98 mm (0.1173 in), in steps of 0.02 mm (0.0008 in).

Example (intake valve):
R = 2.10 mm
M = 0.52 mm
N = 2.10 + (0.52 – 0.30) = 2.22 mm, so we need a valve lifter with code TS222.

  1. The information seems important but it seems this vehicle has different distributor models and finding it hard to differentiate. How many wires has the distributor for the 1996 model of Nissan March K11?

    • Many engines can have different starters, alternators, carburetors or ECU depending on the year, vehicle model or country, so we do not focus on this information. It is better to check with the spare parts supplier using VIN or FRAME code.

  2. My March K11 has an electric power steering. Sometimes it hard then without any checks its soft again. Admin what could be the problem.
