Nissan KA24DE

Nissan KA24DEThe Nissan KA24DE is a 2.4 l (2,389 cc, 145.79 cu-in) straight-4, four-stroke cycle gasoline engine from Nissan KA-family. The Nissan KA24DE motor was manufactured from 1991 through 2016 in Aguascalientes, Mexico for US market, and in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan.

The Nissan KA24DE engine has DOHC (double overhead camshaft) design with 16 valves (4 per cylinder). The engine used a cast-iron cylinder block and aluminum cylinder head. The engine is equipped with a sequential electronic fuel injection system, ignition timing control system, and EGR system. The KA24DE-A is an Altima-specific model of the KA24DE. The head and block are non-interchangeable between all other models and are uniquely cast for front-wheel-drive operation.

An 89 mm (3.5 in) cylinder bore and 96 mm (3.78 in) piston stroke give the motor a total of 2,389 cc of displacement. The compression ratio is 9.5:1 for Nissan 240SX, and 9.2:1 or 9.3:1 for trucks. The KA24DE engine produced up to 159 PS (116 kW; 155.0 HP) at 5,600 rpm of maximum horsepower and up to 217 N·m (22.1 kg·m, 159.9 ft·lb) at 4,400 rpm of maximum torque.

The breakdown of the engine code is as follows:

  • KA – Engine Family
  • 24 – 2.4 Liter Displacement
  • D – DOHC
  • E – Multi Point Fuel Injection

Cylinder head

The cylinder head is made of aluminum alloy. The Nissan KA24DE motor use four valves per cylinder (two intake valves and two exhaust valves). The intake valves are 36.6 mm (1.44 in) in diameter and the exhaust valves are 31.3 mm (1.23 in).

The camshaft is driven by a roller chain driven by the crankshaft. The tension of the chain is controlled by a chain tensioner which is operated by spring and oil pressure.
