Honda GXV160

Honda GXV160The Honda GXV160 is a 163 cc (10.0 cu-in) single-cylinder air-cooled four-stroke internal combustion small gasoline engine with vertical shaft manufactured by Honda Motor Company for general-purpose applications, such as lawn mowers, commercial lawn and garden equipment, forestry equipment, construction and industrial equipment, agricultural equipment.

The Honda GXV160 engine has an OHV (overhead valve) design; high compression ratio for better fuel efficiency; horizontal type carburetor with butterfly valve; centrifugal mechanical governor; heavy-duty recoil or electric starter and transistorized magneto ignition system.

The cylinder bore is 68.0 mm (2.7 in) and the piston stroke is 45.0 mm (1.8 in), compression ratio rating is 8.0:1. The engine produced 5.5 HP (4.0 kW) of horsepower at 3,600 rpm and 10.8 Nm (1.1 kg·m, 7.96 ft·lb) of torque at 2,500 rpm.

  1. Just a little confused as to Engine speed rated at 3200 RPM, and horse power rated at 3600RPM and my mower HRU216 using same motor is only generating 2800RPM at full throttle.
In the words of the late Professor Julius Sumner Miller why is it so?
