Nissan CA16DE

Nissan CA16DE engineThe Nissan CA16DE is a 1.6 liter (1,598 cc, 97.51 cu in) straight-4, four-stroke cycle gasoline engine from Nissan CA-family. The Nissan CA16DE engine was produced from 1987 through 1989.

This engine has DOHC (double overhead camshaft) design with four valves per cylinder (16 valves in total), cast-iron block and an aluminum cylinder head; fully balanced five-bearing crankshaft. The engine is equipped with an electronic fuel injection system EGI (ECCS). North American versions of the CA16DE engine used Nissan induction control system (NICS), which opened up the secondary intake ports to each cylinder via a butterfly valve in each port. This system is activated at 3,900 rpm and improved flow and performance resultingly.

Bore and stroke are 78.0 mm (3.07 in) and 83.6 mm (3.29 in), respectively. Compression ratio rating of 10.0:1. The engine produced 120 PS (88 kW; 118 HP) at 6,400 rpm of maximum horsepower and 137 Nm (14.0 kg·m; 101.1 ft·lb) at 5,200 rpm of torque.

The breakdown of the engine code is as follows:

  • CA – Engine Family
  • 16 – 1.6 Liter Displacement
  • D – DOHC (Dual Overhead Camshafts)
  • E – Multi Point Fuel Injection
